A Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company needed to completely replace their outdated and unsupported Oracle Discoverer environment in order to provide a more feature rich BI environment to their end user community. The existing environment was overly complex, making it both confusing and difficult to maintain and support. According to the company, “Cognos was chosen as the new standard for Business Intelligence due to its robust suite that directly supports the primary functions of an effective BI solution and it also fits well with the data warehouse architectural direction the company has established. “
The company turned to Information Control Corporation (ICC) to analyze, architect and migrate multiple data marts and Discoverer content areas and database objects to Cognos Framework Manager. Using an automated conversion utility, ICC redesigned and redeployed 114 tables and views into 29 Frameworks and rationalized and converted 74 Discoverer reports into 24 Cognos reports. The entire project took only 12 weeks to complete and ICC provided the solution at an affordable fixed price. This simplified environment was gladly adopted by the business community because it was easier to leverage and reuse objects and parameters, reducing the total number of reports while lowering support costs through Cognos’ integrated metadata layer.
Companies interested in replacing their outdated (and out-of-support) Oracle Discoverer environment with Cognos 10 can leverage a cost effective conversion solution created by Information Control Corporation (ICC) (http://www.iccohio.com). The combination of ICC’s Discoverer to Cognos conversion utility and their tried and true methodology allows companies to quickly migrate to IBM’s best of breed BI solution.
